Tile quantity chart

Tiles for a square room, by room and tile size, laid centred with 3/16" grout and 10% waste. The counts run above floor area ÷ tile area, because every cut tile still costs a whole tile.

Reading it

  • A 12" tile with a 3/16" joint occupies 12 3/16" of floor, so a ten-foot run takes nine full tiles and a cut at each edge — eleven tiles per row, not ten.
  • 10% waste suits a straight layout in a square room. A diagonal wants 15%, and a room full of jogs and alcoves wants more.
  • Buy it all in one order. Tile is made in batches and the shade varies between them, so a box bought later to replace a cracked tile will not match.
